sayonara wa wakare no kotoba ja nakute futatabi au made no tooi yakusoku ima wo nageite mo mune wo itamete mo honno yume no tochuu kono mama nanjikan de mo daiteitai kedo tada kono mama tsumetai hoo wo atatametai kedo . |
Goodbye isn’t a parting word It’s a distant promise until we meet again Even if you grieve now, even if your chest hurts, it’s only the middle of a dream Even though I want to be holding you for hours like this Even though I just want to warm your cold cheeks like this . |
tokai wa byou kizami no awatadashi sa koi mo KONKURI-TO no kago no naka kimi ga meguri au ai ni tsukaretara kitto modotte oide ai shita otokotachi wo omoide ni kaete itsu no hi ni ka boku no koto wo omoidasu ga ii tada kokoro no katasumi ni demo chiisaku MEMO shite . |
The city is a frantic, split-second place Even love is in a concrete case If you get tired of love from chance meetings, you should come back to me When you return to memories of the men you loved, you should try to remember me one day Just make a little note in the corner of your heart . |
SU-TSUKE-SU ippai ni tsumekonda kibou to iu na no omoi nimotsu wo kimi wa karugaru to kitto mochiagete egao miseru darou ai shita otokotachi wo kagayaki ni kaete itsu no hi ni ka boku no koto wo omoidasu ga ii tada kokoro no katasumi ni demo chiisaku MEMO shite |
You crammed a suitcase full A heavy baggage you call hope You’ll probably lift it up easily and try your best to smile When you return to the radiance of the men you loved, you should try to remember me one day Just make a little note in the corner of your heart |
+1: This is a well-known classic Japanese pop song which has been covered by many singers as this and also in it’s other famous incarnation as セーラー服と機関銃 <SE-RA- fuku to kikanjuu : Sailor Suit and Machine Gun> – renamed and re-released for the film of the same name. I think this might be why the FLOPPY version begins with a machine gun sound.
+2: Written as ‘genzai’, sang as ‘ima’ (this happens a lot)
+3: This line and the one before are the only ones different from the Sailor fuku to kikanjuu version.
Thank you for posting this! I loved this song when I lived in Japan in the 1980s and it’s wonderful to be able to track it down again and see what it says.
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you like it. It’s a great song, I often sing the original version at karaoke. 🙂
